TMobile 8700g - mmmm shiny
I got a Blackberry 8700g unit yesterday
and here are my initial impressions after 24 hours. This is the TMobile
EDGE equipped handheld. The screen is very nice, the backlighting
works very nicely in all lighting conditions, including outdoor sunlight
- much better than the 7100t I had previously. The EDGE network speed
in my web surfing and download 3rd party apps has been much quicker than
the 7100t, I dowloaded the Idokorro MobileAdmin program in
a few seconds yesterday while waiting at Jury duty. I really like the type-ahead
addressing when creating a new email message, I believe this is new with
the 4.1 handheld software. Phone call clarity is very good, both normal
mode and speakerphone. The speakerphone on the 7100t was also something
I thought worked well. I haven't tried the Bluetooth on my phone,
but a my boss didn't care for it when used with his car's Bluetooth kit,
but another colleague sounded fine when he called me with his Bluetooth
headset on his 8700g, so YMMV.
On the other side, the keyboard seems
smaller, but I've been working with the 7100t keyboard, so it's fine for
me, I'm just trying to relearn where the return and delete keys are. The
keys can feel slippery at times, but I'm guessing that will get better
over time.
Overall, I'm happy with the unit, and
look forward to using it with the 4.1 server and Sametime in the near future!
